Based on a book with the same title written by Matthew Quick, the movie “Silver Linings Playbook” is a 2012 American rom-com drama that is written and directed by David O. Russell (also the director of the film “The Fighter”, an Oscar-winning boxing drama). Bradley Cooper plays as Patrizio “Pat” Solitano Jr. who was diagnosed to have a bipolar disorder and spent eight months in a mental health facility. How does he end in a mental institution, you ask? Because he is crazily in love with his wife Nikki (Brea Bree). And so, when Pat finds her unfaithful wife taking a shower with another man, he lost all her wits and beaten his ex-wife’s lover within an inch of his life.
At the mental clinic, Pat meets and befriends an easy going man named Danny McDaniels (Chris Tucker) who was involved in a legal dispute with the said clinic on whether or not he is qualified to leave. Dr. Cliff Patel (Anupam Kher), Pat’s therapist, does his best to convince Pat to keep taking his medication to prevent any violent outburst and cause him to return to the mental clinic. However, Pat argues that he now has a new outlook on life and attempts to find good or silver linings in everything that he sees and experiences.
